Now that it is wedding season and photos of brides seem to be everywhere, I started thinking about the ways that replacing the roof on your home is like planning a wedding (I know it’s a stretch, but it’s where my thoughts took me).
Let me count the ways:
1- It’s Once in a Lifetime
On average, a person replaces their roof only once in their lifetime. That’s the thought too when going into your first marriage ;)
2- It’s a major purchase anyway you look at it.
The big and grand: or, subtle and simple. Weddings and Roofs can go either way. When working with a roofing pro, it’s a great idea to do some preliminary research to have some idea of what look roof you are going for. Ask any bride, they have the magazines to prove that looking at photos and doing some research is valuable. Houzz and home magazines are a great resource to see how different roofing materials can make a difference in the curb-appeal of a home. Keep the pictures of those that appeal to you and talk with us about how your budget aligns with those looks.
3- There are many options to consider.
For a wedding- from location, number of guests, flowers and officiants- there are many decisions to be made. Changing your roof requires decisions too if you do it right. Asphalt shingles, Custom standing seam metal or engineered Composite Shingles with the look of either wood or slate. All in a myriad of colors. And that’s just the “top of the cake". A new roof includes types of attic ventilation, underlayments, flashings as well as making sure you have enough insulation to keep your house comfortable year-round. Our Roofing Pros can show you what all of these “parts” are, what they do, and guide you to the ones that meet your homes’ needs and give your the look you want. Some people simply want to replace what’s already been there. But as products change and your current roof may not have been installed correctly to start with, we can offer suggestions that may be small changes but can make a big difference in how your roof performs for the long-haul. For the ladies out there: just consider what the proper foundations can do for an outfit.
4- It's an emotional event.
With a wedding, this is obvious. But with a roof this one might sneak up on you. When dealing with people’s homes, emotions often come into play. Just having a stranger in your home can be unnerving. Much less a crew tearing off your roof and banging the house. This is another key reason you have confidence in your roofing professional- to know that you are going to get taken care of.
